Effective in January 2010, anti-smoking regulations have been enacted in such countries as Âu Lạc (Vietnam), North Carolina, USA; Macedonia and United Arab Emirates. In Âu Lạc (Vietnam), the ban on smoking extends to all public places and will be monitored by government inspectors.

In North Carolina, the ban prohibits smoking in restaurants and bars. Smoking in Macedonia is now banned in cafes, clubs and restaurants, including outdoor locations serving food, with fines levied for restaurant owners and smokers alike.

President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates issued a nation-wide law requiring warning labels on all tobacco imports as well as banning advertisements, smoking in public places and smoking in vehicles with children under 12 years old.

Our warm accolades Âu Lạc (Vietnam), Macedonia, North Carolina and United Arab Emirates for starting the new year with fresh ideals and the vision of a smoke-free future for all. Surely the public will benefit greatly from health protective measures as these.
