Fruits and vegetables the highlight of 15th Monte Carlo Gastronomy Fair. Held at the Espace Fontvieille in the Principality of Monaco, the 2010 Monte-Carlo Gastronomy Fair was organized by the Groupe Promocom in partnership with Société des Bains de Mer. The annual event, which celebrates gourmet French as well as international cuisine, featured a theme this year of wholesome fruits and vegetables.

(In French)
Michel Roger, Minister of State, Monaco (M):
It is exactly the interest of a fair like this about gastronomy, to point towards fruits and vegetables to educate people how to eat well.

(In French)
Patrick Rangard, Executive Chief Cook, Port Palace Hotel, Monaco (M):
Within the vegetables, there are different varieties; there is a multitude of choice, colors, textures. " And vegetables are fundamental to tomorrow's cuisine, this is for sure."

(In Italian)
Dr. Luigi Giugno, Doctor, Locri, Italy (M):
This shows that the future direction is oriented most probably to a vegetarian diet, and not meat, which is an important factor in cardiovascular illnesses.

VOICE: Among the 120 select exhibitors at the fair was a stand representing Loving Hut International’s chain of vegan restaurants, which strives toward Supreme Master Ching Hai’s ideal of providing all diners with exquisite yet affordable plant-based meals. Comments from the participants, including members of the culinary profession, reflected their delight in sampling the vegan foods provided.

(In French)
Bruno Manuguerra, Chief Cook, Member of the Monégasque Association “Tastes and Flavors” (M):
I just tasted textured soy. It is really a purely delicious culinary delicacy. We need to explain that we can very well do without a lot of meat and a lot of fish, and enjoy good nourishment with very healthy products.

(In English)
Participant (F): Fantastic! I mean, I didn’t know that you could have vegan food that tasted so good!

Correspondent (F): The meat industry causes more than 50% of all the emissions worldwide. So do you think more people would become vegan if they would know this?

Participant (F): Without a doubt! When they taste it, they’re converted!

VOICE: Many other culinary elites and VIP attendees also expressed their support of the green, cruelty-free vegan lifestyle.

(In Italian)
Antonio Morabito, Italian Ambassador in Monaco (M): This is a message that is necessary to preserve our life and the lives of the persons who will come after us.

Chef, Member of the Monégasque Association “Tastes and Flavors” (M): We try to attract people towards the organics, towards vegetables, to rediscover a little of all the forgotten vegetables today, and to encourage their inclusion in the diet.

Correspondent (F): It’s fantastic what you are doing. And the children, do you like the fruits and vegetables? Children: Yes!

VOICE: Our appreciation, Société des Bains de Mer and all participants working to raise awareness on the multifold delights of vegan fare. Let us all join the veg trend — for our own enjoyment, and for the well-being of the planet!
