The Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future in Maryland, USA has honored the state’s Baltimore City Public Schools with the 2009 Award for Visionary Leadership in Local Food Procurement and Food Education for its implementation of Meatless Mondays, where only vegetarian food is served. The school district has also launched other initiatives to educate children on healthy eating choices, with plans underway to plant gardens at each of the district’s 200 schools.

Our hats off, Baltimore City Schools, for your exemplary award. May schools nationwide similarly join in these and other such noble endeavors to benefit children nationwide with the healthy, life-saving veg diet.
