Basketball champion promotes veggie meals to prevent diabetes in children. Four-time US National Basketball Association (NBA) champion and vegan John Salley has teamed up with the US-based Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine for the 2011 campaign that describes how plant-based fare can help prevent childhood type 2 diabetes, which affects nearly 24 million children and adults in the United States. In the new 30-second Public Service Announcement, Mr. Salley states, “One in every three little kids is going to develop diabetes in their lifetime… You can up your defenses by eating more fruits and vegetables and having more vegetarian and vegan meals. These steps can be the power plays to protect you and your family against the risk of diabetes.”
A big hats off, John Salley and Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, for your endeavors to help American youths be disease-free through wholesome veg nutrition. May they be inspired toward ever greater health through your noble example of the benefits of vegan fare.
