In ecology news, a Kenyan researcher promotes traditional vegetables for food security. For the past 20 years, Professor Dr. Mary Abukutsa Onyango of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Nairobi, Kenya, has pioneered studies in indigenous crops. To date, Dr. Onyango has trained 100 farmers in Kenya on seed production of traditional vegetables, which she has found to be highly nutritious. Currently, they have increased in popularity and are available in restaurants, markets, and supermarkets outside rural areas.
