According to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology of Vietnam, at least 35 fatalities from rabies were reported in the first six months of this year, which is more than the total for the years spanning 2001-2003. The online medical journal PLos Medicine is linking some rabies’ deaths to the consumption of dog flesh, especially in the less fortunate mountainous regions of Âu Lạc’s (Vietnam) northern provinces.
There, two fatal cases occurred where both people passed away from the disease without being bitten.
One had been known to slaughter a dog that had died in traffic, and the other ate a cat that was found to be afflicted with rabies. We are deeply saddened to know of such losses to this disease.
Our prayers that it ceases as more and more humans awaken their care for our beautiful canine and feline companions and adopt the safe and humane vegan way of life for longevity and health.
