Turkish and Greek prime ministers renew commitments to peace. At the invitation of his Greek counterpart George Papandreou, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended the Friday, January 7 inauguration ceremony of the 2011 Winter Universiade stadium where the upcoming World Student Games will be held. In a meeting that day, the two leaders spoke of their countries’ mutual efforts to set aside differences of the past in favor of fostering good neighborly relations. Greek Prime Minister Papandreou spoke of the importance of respecting all cultures, while Prime Minister Erdogan acknowledged the constructive nature of their meeting as he stated, “We are exerting intense efforts to make the Aegean a sea of peace and friendship… Today's meeting is very important... I would like to send love and our best regards from Turkey to Greece.”

Your Excellencies, we respectfully laud your efforts to forge new possibilities built on amicable relations of trust. May the noble-hearted people of Greece and Turkey flourish in prosperity and friendship.
