A collaborative study between South African and US researchers, one of the first of its kind, found that fish from South African’s coast contain dangerous levels of mercury. A highly toxic heavy metal, mercury can damage the brain and nervous system as well as causing fever, tremors, mood swings and even birth defects.
Citing US environmental agency guidelines, the scientists stated that daily consumption of the fish evaluated would expose an adult to11 times and a child to 32 times more mercury than recommended.

The report thus suggested limiting or avoiding consumption of fish from South Africa’s coastal waters.
Our heartfelt thanks, US and South African scientists for your careful work and wish to protect public health. For the sake of our own vitality and that of the ocean environments, let us all switch to the wholesome plant-based diet.
