Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association relief news update from China.
Just before dawn on July 13, a sudden rainstorm struck Xiaohe Town of Qiaojia County in Yunnan Province. In the recent flood, with currents carrying significant amounts of debris from ruined buildings, 22 people lost their lives while 23 others were missing and at least 43 injured of the 1,200 affected.

Conveying her sorrowful prayers and sympathy, Supreme Master Ching Hai sent a US$1,732 donation and quickly asked our Association’s nearby relief team to go if possible and offer help to the most vulnerable, such as the elderly and the orphaned.

This amount could purchase US$12,400 in needed items if bought in the United States, based on China’s overall cost of living.

After assessing the situation, our Association’s relief team in China traveled through narrow mountain roads still vulnerable to landslides and arrived safely at one of the worst-hit areas on July 16, just three days after the disaster. There, the relief team saw that the local government was doing its best to help the victims, and they offered the quilts and clothing they had brought for the officials to include in their aid distribution.

The government workers were moved and expressed their appreciation for the timely and caring outreach from Supreme Master Ching Hai.

Our gratefulness to the local government for their diligent efforts to assist co-citizens. We also appreciate Supreme Master Ching Hai’s loving support of the storm-distressed and our Association’s relief team for their prompt response.

With condolences to the families of perished loved ones, may the affected quickly recover their peaceful lives, as we continue turning to more compassionate ways to ease such extreme weather events as these.
