Supreme Master Ching Hai inspires awareness and action to save the Earth.

Many of last Sunday’s seminar participants conveyed to Supreme Master Television the message they have taken to heart from the event, and in particular, their memorable videoconference with Supreme Master Ching Hai.

Li Ai-de, Language Center, Chang Jung Christian University: Vegetarianism is a lot more efficient so it causes a lot less carbon release. Energy is used in refrigeration and distribution of meat. And eating meat is inherently less efficient; it’s about 10% efficient as eating vegetables. So eating vegetables is good for you and it’s good for the planet.

Lou Ji-Zhong, vegetarian Professor, Institute of Environmental Engineering, National Sun Yat-Sen University: Like Supreme Master Ching Hai said today, I should have the courage to come out and tell others I am a vegetarian. I have been a vegetarian for many years. I think I have this responsibility and I have the duty to set an example myself. Supreme Master Ching Hai said that the vegetarian diet is the fastest way to save the Earth. I think I will spread this correct concept to the government ministries. I think these are the two things I can do. I will definitely try my best.

VOICE: During the Seminar, Supreme Master Ching Hai highlighted the tremendous range of constructive effects that the vegetarian, meaning animal-free diet could have on our future.

Supreme Master Ching Hai : Everything else takes too long and we don’t have time. So we have to choose the vegetarian diet; no more animals breeding. Choose organic farming, helping each other, sharing the food that we have.

Because if we are vegetarian, all of us, we will have so much food to share with everybody; no one will ever go to sleep hungry at night anymore. And then we will have saved a lot of time, energy, money to help them also combat disease and rebuild their lives. Everything’s possible, because there will be no more war, even with animals. Peace begins at home.

VOICE: We thank Supreme Master Ching Hai for the comprehensive information and insights she brings to aid our society in making the best decisions. We pray that the delicious vegetarian meals will make their way to dining tables more frequently, bringing peace to humans and animals everywhere.

Please tune in at a later date for a full re-broadcast of the “2008 Critical Moments to Save the Planet: What Can I Do?” seminar and concert, here on Supreme Master Television, with multi-language subtitles.

Species may become extinct much faster than previously thought.

A report from US ecologists Brett Melbourne and Alan Hastings, published in the journal “Nature,” finds that estimates for current populations of animal and plant species may not be using updated extinction models Dr. Melbourne stated, “The older models could be severely overestimating the time to extinction. Some species could go extinct 100 times sooner than we expect.” The Yangtze River dolphin is one such example. This freshwater mammal, which had long been a source of legend for the Chinese people, appears to have gone from a population of thousands to extinction virtually overnight.

Our appreciation for your valuable research, Drs. Melbourne and Hastings. We pray your insights will help us to act more quickly to protect the rich biological heritage God has given us here on Earth.
