Russian and Polish leaders resume normalized ties. On Monday, December 6 Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was welcomed in Poland for a two-day visit, marking the first time a Russian leader had come to the country in nine years. Following meetings with Poland’s President Bronisław Komorowski, both spoke of their willingness to resume amicable relations, due in part to Russia’s efforts to make amends for unfortunate events of the past. While there, President Medvedev also honored Polish film director Andrzej Wajda with Russia’s Order of Friendship, and seven cooperative agreements were signed in areas that included environmental care of the Baltic Sea, as well as sea transport, postal service and telecommunications, among others.

We respectfully congratulate Your Excellencies for renewing the cordial relations of your countries. May the Russian and Polish people flourish in such advancements of goodwill and neighborly love.
