A State Department official has announced the government’s plans to dispose of its remaining 1.3 million persistent landmines, which are those that do not self-deactivate.

This formal decision to be rid of the entire stockpile follows a policy that ended the use of such munitions many years ago and could bring the US closer to joining a global treaty banning anti-personnel mines.

Our appreciation, US military and United States, for these progressive steps to ensure public security through the elimination of harmful devices.

May such endeavors continue in the US and across the globe, bringing a global society of shared understanding and peace.
