In a study published at the end of May 2011, US researchers find that rising temperatures could jeopardize winter roads built over frozen lakes and land across eight countries that contain Arctic regions, affecting both trade and travel as entire sections melt and are rendered impassable.

With drought conditions persisting in France, the European Union’s largest agricultural producer has restricted water use by farmers in more than half of the country’s 96 mainland departmental administrative areas and as of Monday, June 13 was warning of potential crop losses.


With the last 11 years being the driest in a century for the Colorado River in the USA, representatives from the seven US states whose 30 million people depend on water from the river come together to release an interim June 2011 report that evaluates the shared impact of further climate change effects.
