Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association relief news update from Mexico.
Starting in late January, weeks of non-stop unexpected rains caused floods and landslides in Michoacan and Mexico states as well as southern central regions surrounding Mexico City.

At least 30 people perished, while in Mexico City alone, 7,500 homes were flooded. The Mexican government sent soldiers to join emergency crews to ease the situation.

Mexican Correspondent (M): We are reporting from Mexico for Supreme Master Television on the situation the community of Chalco, Mexico State is living in, a month since some dams overflowed contaminated waters and as you can see they have not yet fallen.

Today people are still waiting for the water to recede in order to return to their homes that are completely submerged. Right now as you can see, the water has dropped a little, but transport is still needed for people to reach their homes.

Correspondent (M): What is the current situation you are living in here as a citizen of Chalco?
Flood victim – Chalco, Mexico City, Mexico (M): Well, a huge flood as you can see, started already, going on a week, and then is just beginning to lower its levels
Correspondent (M): What have you lost apart from your house?
Flood victim (M): Well, all my furniture, vehicle, animals, many things, in all 90% total loss.
Correspondent (M): Till now what is the greatest need you’re facing besides food?
Flood victim (M): Well, right now nothing more than medical care and coordination of the officials.
Correspondent (M): Now, people are still out of their homes and do not know when the unsafe waters will go down. Reporting from Chalco, Mexico, for Supreme Master Television.

VOICE: Expressing her sorrow and prayers, Supreme Master Ching Hai had made a US$15,000 emergency donation and asked our nearest Association’s relief team to go and help.

The donation could purchase US$53,000 in supplies in the United States, based on Mexico’s cost of living. The team in Mexico traveled to the afflicted areas, where they first distributed blankets to families in need and cooked vegan meals for more than 2,000 people. Despite additional rainfall, they also set up a
healthcare station where our medically trained relief team members treated people with flood-related ailments while freely giving masks and first aid supplies.

Throughout the week, both relief workers and aid recipients expressed thankfulness for their experience.
Association relief team member / Medical doctor (M): Well, I think it is a very beautiful satisfaction, the ability to help people. And Master sent us all this so that it can be shared with people who are in need right now.

Medical relief recipient (F): I send a greeting to the Master who is supporting us here right now. May God bless her and bless her evermore.

VOICE: Our appreciation Mexican government, soldiers and all relief personnel who have been assisting the flood victims. We join in thanking Supreme Master Ching Hai for her loving concern and aid, as well as our Association’s relief team for their diligent work.

With prayers for the Mexican people’s soon recovery of their homes and day-to-day lives, may extreme weather events as these subside through humanity’s gentler stewardship of the ecosphere.
