The August 7 storm caused floods and enormous mudslides that buried villages, with 543 people perished, 117 still missing and 46 injured.

Conveying her condolences and love, on August 8 Supreme Master Ching Hai requested that our Formosan Association members continuously go to help and comfort the afflicted, pledging US$30,000 and more funds available as needed.

Our Association members set out immediately in relief efforts and continued on August 21 when they went to the worst-hit Kaohsiung and Tainan counties.

There, they visited hospitals and storm victims who had lost family members as well as their homes, offering cash assistance and food aid. The relief team also provided art materials for the children, much to their delight.
