Record high temperatures reported across Canada.
With parts of the Arctic and northern Quebec reaching more than 6 ° Celsius above normal seasonal averages, the nation’s Meteorological Service has reported that this past winter was the warmest and driest on record.

Along with up to 60% less precipitation in some regions for this year alone, the past decade has produced 4 of the ten warmest years on record.

Meanwhile in the United States, a recent analysis by the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) affirmed that average temperatures in the past decade have continued to rise rapidly despite year-to-year fluctuations caused by El Niño and La Niña cycles.

Our heartfelt thanks, Canadian and US scientists for this revealing data, despite its unsettling observations.
Let us all move now to adopt planet-cooling actions that restore the balance of our shared global home. In a video message during a June 2009 climate change conference in Veracruz, Mexico, Supreme Master Ching Hai spoke of the quickest way to reverse the case of ever-extreme temperature rise.

Supreme Master Ching Hai: The past decade has twice, at least, seen the hottest average annual temperatures ever recorded in our planet’s history. So, we must cool the planet, first and foremost. And one of the most effective and fastest ways to reduce the heat in the atmosphere is to eliminate methane production.
Methane not only traps up to 72 times more heat than carbon, it also goes away from the atmosphere much faster than CO2.

We can start by cutting down on the biggest methane producer in the world, that is, animal raising. So, to cool the planet most quickly, we have to stop consuming meat in order to stop the livestock raising industry

If everyone in the world would adopt this simple but most powerful practice of an animal-free diet, then we could reverse the effect of global warming in no time.

Earth Hour and the veg solution to global warming.
From the Victoria Harbor in Hong Kong to the Alhambra Palace in Spain, to New York’s Time Square and San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, USA, famous international landmarks dimmed their lights at 8:30 pm on March 27.

It was the symbolic environmental awareness event, Earth Hour, which was started by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Supreme Master Television’s correspondents covered this exciting movement around the globe.

Japanese Correspondent (M): Halo from Tokyo, Japan! I'm standing near the Tokyo Tower, a landmark of Tokyo where the lights are about to go off. The lights-out time is approaching… (Lights go off) The light went out right now! Tokyo Tower is in the dark!

Bulgarian Correspondent (F): Halo from Sofia, Bulgaria. We are in front of the National Theatre in the capital, where we are expecting any minute the lights to be switched off for exactly one hour.

Mr. Hsiao Chia-chi – Deputy Mayor of Taichung, Formosa (Taiwan), VEGETARIAN (M): Being vegan is also a very green way to reduce carbon.

Dr. Dave Lowe – Climate scientist, Nelson, New Zealand (M): It’s impossible to conceive of feeding going on 7 billion people on the Earth on beef, it just can’t happen.

Participant – Madrid, Spain (M): We want to have a clean planet for our generation.

Mongolian Correspondent (M): Halo, greetings from Ulaanbaatar! (Lights go off) It’s 8:30 pm now – please switch off the electricity together!

Finnish Correspondent (F): I am standing here in Helsinki in Esplanad Boulevard, and we are witnessing the Earth Hour event that just started a few minutes ago.

VOICE: Through creative activities including candlelit dinners to bicycle-powered concerts, participants in thousands of cities gathered in shared concern about climate change and explored lifestyle changes to stop it.

Participant – New York, USA (F): We should definitely walk more.

Hong Kong Correspondent (F): I am at the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.
Apart from WWF-Hong Kong hosting Earth Hour tonight at 8:30 pm, there is a Low Carbon Wonderland here since this afternoon to promote low carbon living.

Participant playing “less meat” game (F): More vegetables, less meat!

VOICE: As part of Earth Hour, many talked about the most efficient and fastest way to cool the planet – switching to a plant-based diet.

Dr William Yu – World Wildlife Fund (WWF)-Hong Kong, Head of Climate Program (M): Methane produced by cattle and sheep aggravates global warming, so we encourage all of you to eat less meat and more vegetables.

Rosemary Vandenbroucke – Supermodel, Hong Kong :I think one thing that everyone needs to apply to their life is to reduce their own carbon footprint, and one of the great ways is to have a healthy lifestyle by eating less meat and eating more veggies.

I think that it’s crucial that everyone follows along with that trend.

Participant – Toronto, Canada (F):If everyone does it, it does make a difference.

Participant – Helsinki, Finland (F): One person can do very much. One of the biggest: by becoming a vegetarian!

Juan Carlos del Olmo – WWF-Spain (M): The excess of meat consumption is related, in many cases, with tropical rainforest destruction, to produce animal feed or to open fields and pastures to livestock.
Therefore, this is an option that we think is very, very important.

It’s good for the environment, it’s good for health and for sure it’s also more ethical in our behavior with animals.

Volunteer – Busan, S. Korea (F): We should be veg even for the sake of our health!

Lee Hee-Song – Representative, WWF-South Korea (M): Please eat a lot of vegetables, protect animals, and stop climate change!

Daniel - San Francisco City Hall Representative, USA (M): Millions and millions of gallons every year go into the production of meat. And that’s water we can use for a lot of things.

So, hey, guess what? Skip the meat, buy vegetables, enjoy yourself a great vegetarian meal. Not only will we live longer but, guess what? So will the Earth. Thanks for coming out tonight.

Participant – New York, USA (F): I really love Earth, and hope you guys do as well.

VOICE: Kudos all participating groups, governments, and citizens for making Earth Hour 2010 a success! With everyone doing their individual part of making the Earth-saving choice to be veg and go green, our planet’s future is sure to be only bright.

Participant – San Francisco, USA (M): Earth Hour 2010. Be veg, go green, save the planet!
Groups: Be veg, go green, save the planet!

Rosemary Vandenbroucke – Supermodel, Hong Kong (F): Be veg, go green, and save the planet!
