Formosa’s (Taiwan) county government determined to halt global warming.

On Wednesday, a press conference was held on a bold and unique upcoming seminar and concert being hosted by the Taipei County government this Sunday, June 29.

SupremeMasterTV: We are present at Taipei County Hall Formosa where the “2008 Critical Moment to Save the Earth – What Can I Do?” Seminar, and “Veg Love for Mother Earth concert” will be held.

Ms. Chin Chun Kuo, news anchor in Formosa (Taiwan): First: Respond to the government’s ten measures to reduce carbon emissions. Second: Reduce meat consumption and switch to the vegetarian diet. Third: Change to using energy saving light bulbs. We must be attentive to our next generation and their future generations. We must convey the message of environmental protection to everyone.

Lee Chih Hong, Chief-secretary, Environmental Protection Bureau, Taipei County, Formosa (Taiwan): Currently, the Environmental Protection Bureau is promoting an eco-carbon-reduction “no regrets” policy. The campaign encourages everyone to eat more vegetables and less meat, to reduce carbon emissions. I think everyone knows the process of meat production produces a lot of greenhouse gas emissions.

VOICE: The county government has invited many performing artists and well-known public figures to join the seminar, recognizing the leadership they have in appealing to and inspiring the public.

Tung Huan Chang, Noted Formosan (Taiwan) classical guitar musician: If the government can assist those who are willing to run a vegetarian restaurant or small business growing vegetables and provide them with a available source of supplies, I believe there will be many restaurateurs willing to do it. I believe the vegetarian population will then grow immediately.

Yifei Tang, Actress: The most important thing is to save the planet. I myself have been a vegetarian since I was a child.

Chou, Hsi-Wei / Taipei County Magistrate
We hope everyone will be able to decrease carbon dioxide emissions, to do it in each detailed behavior in your daily life. So we hope everyone does our best together. This planet “Earth” is our home .

VOICE: The seminar taking place this Sunday, June 29, will also invite Supreme Master Ching Hai as an honored guest to speak to the participants via live videoconference on what people can do to help save the planet.

We thank the Taipei County government and all those involved for your concerned efforts and wish you a successful event that raises much awareness on the benefits of a sustainable, plant-based diet.

Please tune in to Supreme Master Television for the special live broadcast of the climate change discussion with Supreme Master Ching Hai, this Sunday, June 29 at 3:30 pm Formosa (Taiwan) time, or 9:30 am on Sunday, Central European Time. We will also air a part of the concert live from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM Formosa time, or 12: 30 PM to 2:00 PM Central European Time.

More vegetables and less meat, declares Formosan (Taiwanese) presidential office.

As part of a World Environment Day commemoration, Formosa’s (Taiwan) President Ma Ying-Jeou and Vice President Vincent Siew led the entire presidential office in the signing of a declaration of measures to reduce CO2 and save energy, which includes eating locally and partaking of more vegetables and less meat. Along with other green measures, President Ma encouraged all citizens to start small and adopt frugal habits to help make carbon emission reduction a part of everyone’s life.
Upon hearing this auspicious news, our Master was so touched and requested us to broadcast immediately. She conveys her best wishes and her love to the Formosan government and her people. She also sends her congratulations Formosa for having the first ever heroic president on the planet to sign the noble declaration to promote the compassionate animal-free lifestyle to save the world.

Dr. James Hansen calls for carbon emissions tax.

At his briefing of the US Congress, Dr. James Hansen, director of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Goddard Institute for Space Studies, called for a carbon tax to reduce global warming emissions and promote sustainable energy sources. He said, “We have to level with the public that there has to be a price on carbon emissions. That is the only way we are going to begin to move toward a carbon-free economy.” He noted that the tax revenues should be returned to the public for further development of energy-efficient technologies. Dr. Hansen also called for a complete halt on coal-fired power plants that do not have carbon capture systems.
We express our appreciation, Dr. James Hansen, for voicing the urgency of our Earth’s environmental situation. May Heaven bless your continued efforts to urge for quick actions to pave the way for our planet’s viable future.

Ghana fosters public awareness of global warming.

At a workshop on climate change in Ghana, Parliament Speaker Mr. Ebenezer Begyina Sekyi-Hughes spoke of the need for all sectors to join together to inform the public of the vital importance of environmental preservation. He said, “Climate change is arguably the greatest danger facing humanity in the years ahead. Here in Ghana, the year 2007 saw severe drought with cracking lands, followed by massive flooding and destruction of agricultural products and other properties in an unprecedented scale. We cannot, therefore, afford to sit down unconcerned, and it is time we got the citizenry educated about it.”
We are most grateful, Speaker Sekyi-Hughes, for your encouragement of climate change awareness in all levels of Ghanaian society. We wish you and your co-citizens the very best in joining hands to restore the natural balance and verdant beauty of Ghana.
