Interview with Supreme Master Ching Hai on New York’s Environmentally Sound Radio.

On Thursday, September 11, Supreme Master Ching Hai accepted an invitation for an hour-long interview on Environmentally Sound Radio, which has featured prominent environmentalists such as Dr. Jane Goodall and Pete Seeger. It is broadcast live on WVOX AM 1460, which has been awarded “Best News in New York State.” Environmentally Sound Radio’s producer and host Bob Lebensold interviewed Supreme Master Ching Hai on a wide range of topics but also focused on global warming.

Bob Lebensold (M): So let me ask, if most of mankind or all of mankind were to become vegetarian, which I don’t think is likely; you’ll tell me if you think it’s likely…

Supreme Master Ching Hai : Who knows?

Bob Lebensold (M): Would that reverse global warming, if we all stopped eating meat?

Supreme Master Ching Hai : Yes, sir. I guarantee. Signed and sealed.

Bob Lebensold (M): You don’t expect that to happen, do you?

Supreme Master Ching Hai : Well, I do expect it to happen. Why not? We can always think positive. And I’m working with all my might to try to bring it close.

Supreme Master Ching Hai : We have the Supreme Master Television to broadcast all the facts about global warming every day, scientifically and evidently. And also we have people going out and distribute flyers concerning climate change and we also open many vegan restaurants around the world now, helping people to realize that really we don’t need meat to survive and vegan food is delicious and healthy.

Greatest threat to aquatic life is over-fishing.

In a study of 21 worldwide water systems, carried out by over 100 esteemed aquatic ecologists, human activities such as fishing and excessive water removal were found to be the greatest source of jeopardy to fish species. Another recent study found that up to 700 species of freshwater fish in North America alone are vulnerable, threatened or endangered. One of the better-known fish that is now endangered but still served in eateries worldwide is the Mediterranean bluefin tuna. Dr Sergi Tudela of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Mediterranean, said, “The demise of fish stocks through fishing and decline of rivers through excessive off-take are just two dramatic examples of how people are directly changing aquatic ecosystems and threatening the natural services that they deliver.”

Our deep gratitude, Dr. Tudela and all scientists, for sharing this vital information.  Blessed be humanity in adopting the life-saving plant-based diet to preserve all treasured aquatic inhabitants and the beauty of our Earth.

Why planting trees is not the only solution.

Since 2000, more than 32 million acres of Canada’s forests are being decimated by the mountain pine beetle, whose numbers have been boosted by rising temperatures due to global warming. The decomposing trees add more atmospheric CO2 rather than absorbing it, thus worsening the climate warming effect. In a videoconference with our Association members near Vancouver, in British Columbia, Canada, Supreme Master Ching Hai explained why reforestation, and even reducing transport emissions, would not be adequate solutions.

Videoconference with Supreme Master Ching Hai
with Vancouver Center, Canada – August 24, 2008

Supreme Master Ching Hai:  Planting trees alone is not the solution, because nature, as you see for yourself, has the way of balancing out the bad retribution that we have caused. Even if we plant more trees, there will be something else happening, maybe wildfire, or the beetle will be more in abundance, and then they will also begin to eat away all the forest. And Canada is a country that is valued for her forest. So this is a really terrible situation. The only thing is we have to be morally fit. And have to be virtuous. Otherwise, there’s no getting away from the bad karma, meaning the retribution, for whatever we do.

Even if we try to cut out carbon dioxide from the cars and transportation and all that, nature is doing something else to us, because we are not taking care of our moral standard, and our virtuous way of life has been lacking somewhat, to some degree. That’s why I keep telling people, the only refuge we can take is in our own virtues. We have to be compassionate again. We have to look into our heart to live the noble way that Heaven intended us to live.

So, planting trees alone is not the absolute solution. We have to be vegetarian.

VOICE: We express our gratitude to Supreme Master Ching Hai, for clearly identifying the ultimate solution for restoring nature’s balance. We pray that more and more people choose to adopt the safe and rewarding animal-free vegetarian diet.
