Sri Lanka prohibits tobacco and alcohol in TV - 1 Sep 2011

The nation's National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol (NATA) announced a ban on smoking and drinking scenes on television, effective immediately. For programs produced before this NATA Act came into effect, the television channel will air an opening message that warns of the harmful substances in the upcoming scenes, as well as a message being displayed during the scenes.

Our appreciation, Sri Lankan government, for these proactive measures to protect public health from the harms of alcohol and tobacco. May more and more nations enact such noble policies for the vibrant wellbeing of fellow citizens across the globe.
