An agreement forged between local animal advocacy groups, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS),agricultural trade associations and Ohio Governor Ted Strickland is set to provide better conditions for animals throughout the state.

Among the terms of the new measure are the phasing out of cruelly confining crates for calves and mother pigs along with a moratorium on permits for the cramped hen structures known as battery cages.
The agreement also raises the welfare requirements of dog-breeding kennels and promotes bans on cockfighting and exotic animal purchase.

This accord was reached after more than 500,000 Ohioans signed a ballot in support of better treatment of animals.

Our thanks, Governor Strickland, Humane Society of the United States, all organizations and caring individuals for your dedicated efforts to improve the lives of our animal friends.
May we raise our regard for all animals to naturally refrain from consuming them as we come to respect their lives as our own.
