In Indiana, USA, a malfunctioning lagoon is causing bubbles of potentially explosive methane to rise from beneath the plastic-lined pit of some 20 million gallons of manure generated by the 1,600 cows on a local farmer’s dairy farm.

Besides the methane bubbles, the lagoon is in danger of overflowing. Meanwhile the farmer, unable to cope with operating costs, has filed for bankruptcy.

Neighbors, who have already been complaining of the farm’s harmful odors and aggressive insects, fear the imminent explosion of the methane bubbles, which could be dangerous and at the least would result in polluting manure being spread for miles.

We are saddened to know of the damage to health and the environment of farmed animal operations as these. May we all avoid such calamities for ourselves and those around us by choosing only life- and eco-saving plant-based fare.
