“Jewish Boat to Gaza” makes symbolic journey for Palestinians and peace. A group of nine Jewish travelers from Israel, Germany, the US and Britain, all members of the UK-based Jews for Justice for Palestinians, departed from northern Cyprus in a small boat on Sunday, September 26 to deliver a humble and symbolic amount of aid to Palestinians in Gaza. Their mission was to represent the Jewish tradition of non-violence, with an intent to show solidarity for Palestinians in calling for the free passage of goods and people to and from the Gaza Strip. When their boat arrived in Israeli waters on Tuesday, the group was towed by the military to the port of Ashdod, where arrangements were made for transfer of the aid to Gaza. Other groups supporting the journey included European Jews for Just Peace; Germany’s Jewish Voice for a Just Peace in the Middle East; US-based Jewish Voice for Peace; American Jews for a Just Peace, and Australia’s Jews Against the Occupation – Sydney. We are touched, Jewish Boat to Gaza organizers and participants for your courageous and heartfelt action calling for justice and a shared peace. May your efforts inspire Israelis and Palestinians alike to unite for neighborly harmony across the land.
