Following several months of negotiations, representatives from Northern and Southern Sudan have signed an agreement that commits to resolving outstanding issues from a peace accord originally established in 2005.
The new agreement sets a framework of actions in such areas as upcoming elections, peace in Darfur and border demarcation.

US special envoy Scott Gration, who has been present for negotiations as well as the signing, affirmed his optimism that the new agreement would result in stronger relations that in turn will bring a brighter future for Sudan.

Many thanks, special envoy Gration and United States for your assistance, and our respectful congratulations,
leaders of Northern and Southern Sudan for reaffirming your peaceful goals.

Blessed be such efforts in bringing lasting peace to all the gentle people of your land.
