United Nations adopts “World Interfaith Harmony Week.” United Nations General Assembly members meeting on Wednesday, October 20 adopted an initiative originally proposed by His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan to designate the first week in February each year as “World Interfaith Harmony Week.” The new commemoration is intended to encourage understanding among the world’s religions as a foundation for peace. In his original proposal, King Abdullah stated, “… The fact is, humanity everywhere is bound together, not only by mutual interests, but by shared commandments to love God and neighbor, to love the good and neighbor … What we are proposing is a special week during which the world’s people, in their own places of worship, could express the teachings of their own faith about tolerance, respect for the other and peace.”

Our heartfelt thanks, Your Majesty and United Nations General Assembly members, for this new celebration of respect and brotherly love. Blessed be such noble values in supporting a vision of peace and understanding to be shared among people of all faiths.
