Portugal's president re-elected. After winning 53% of the popular vote on Sunday, January 23, incumbent President Anibal Cavaco Silva was announced as the nation’s president for a second 5-year term. The economist, who also served previously as prime minister, vowed to help his nation overcome its economic difficulties by creating jobs and reducing debt. Appealing for the nation to work together, President Silva stated, “We have to be united in confronting these challenges.”

Our respectful congratulations, Your Excellency, on your re-election. Wishing your leadership success in serving the highest goals of progress and peace for the nation and people of Portugal.
