On Saturday, February 6, families, friends and Japanese government officials welcomed home naval ships carrying 340 military personnel, thus concluding Japan’s 8-year refueling mission in Afghanistan.

Japanese Premier Yukio Hatoyama presided at the return ceremony, which occurred on the same day that 350 Japanese troops departed for Haiti to assist in humanitarian endeavors such as post-quake clean up and reconstruction.

Our accolades, Your Excellency and Japan, for your decision of peace. Blessed be such exemplary actions in inspiring harmonious and constructive engagement of soldiers across the globe.
